Philly Children’s March had the enormous honor of meeting with BOTH fourth grade classes at Powel Elementary! These young students are working with Need in Deed to address the issue of gun violence in their community. I was invited to talk with them about people I know personally who have been lost to gun violence, and also to talk about activism as a way to organize around an issue. The students were amazingly engaged… knowledgeable, curious, and just generally awesome. They had many hard stories of their own to share, they asked really thoughtful questions, and best of all (for me) they completely inspired me to keep up our work at PCM. I’ve heard back from their teacher, and they now want to march! I can’t wait to visit again and support their efforts.
