A Weekend at Netroots

On a weekend in mid-July, the three PCM interns made their way to Center City for the annual Netroots Nation Conference: the largest political convention for progressives. Here are some highlights!:

First up was a networking event! Our interns got to listen and connect with other organizations doing similar work throughout the Philly area and beyond!

Next was an action on shutting down ICE and the local Berks detention center, reuniting families, and immigrants rights! PCM and about 1,000 other activists took to the streets, marching around City Hall to the Berks detention center.

Throughout the weekend, the interns got the opportunity to sit in on many talks and discussions, ranging on a variety of issues! Some of the favorites included: Young Women of Color Winning Elections, What Philly Taught Us: How Philadelphia Activists Beat School Privatization to Restore Local Control, and Racial Justice and Climate Change: Building a Multiracial Environmental Justice Movement.

Last, but not least there was the candidate talk, featuring 4 presidential candidates: Senator Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Julian Castro, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Governor Jay Inslee. With close to front row seats, we got to watch each of the candidates discuss issues such as health care, immigration, and foreign policy!

Overall a successful, engaging, and unforgettable weekend!
