Who We Are: Founded in 2015 in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, the Philly Children’s Movement is a collective of families and educators talking, playing, learning, and rising up for racial and intersectional justice! The Philly Children’s Movement envisions a world in which all people are liberated, whole, and valued. In working for this more just world, PCM organizes with families and schools to identify and subvert racism in both relationships and systems. We organize around seven main tenets: Developing a Power Analysis, Exploring History and Systems, Affirming Identity, Story-sharing & Dialogue, Taking Action, Sparking Joy, and Organizing for Justice.

Who You Are: You have a passion for social justice, and you affirm that Black Lives Matter. You are well organized, proactive, and personable. You are well versed in the non-profit sector especially with grants and the development process. You also understand the educational and landscape of Philadelphia and its metro area and have experience working with youth. You are an advocate at heart, and an administrator in practice, who is excited to be PCM’s first full-time staff member.

About the Job: The Organizing Director position is a 40 hour/week position, with a 3-month trial period, after which the contract can be extended if all parties agree it is a good fit. The Organizing Director will coordinate once-weekly after school programming focused on Black joy, including logistics, transportation of youth, programming and solidifying guest teachers, and other tasks as needed. In addition, the Organizing Director will oversee day-to-day operations of PCM with particular focus on our sustainability and growth as an organization. This will include communicating with schools and other partners to schedule racial justice-centered workshops; developing community programming (events, marches, campaigns, and mutual aid efforts); and working with the PCM core members and our partners to expand and deepen PCM’s grants and projects to offer youth- and family-centered racial and social justice work in our schools and communities. Inclusion statement:

We are committed to racial equity, and we make a particular effort to recruit people of color, indigenous people, gender non-binary people, and people with historically more marginalized identities to apply for open positions. Our core values of cultivating play, centering equity, and continuing to learn and collaborate within communities are the foundation of our organization- and are infused in all aspects of our work.

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every one of the qualifications as described in a job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. If that is you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself!
